MRCA Leasing Option- Part 1

We cannot afford to buy second batch of MRCA. So we moving foward to lease at least two squadron of these MRCA figthers . Currently some of best option are Super Hornet, Gripen & Euro fighter Typhoon, these stock are available in service. So now , what is the best fighter & affort to lease?

Gripen, one single engine with the latest network centric warfare, is a great combination with Awacs AEW. But again you are talking about the risk of single engine, cheap in term of maintainance. But have a great features  such as AESA, infomation sharing, can AMRAAm etc.

While for Super Hornet, we are looking at more bigger f-18 in term of size, Weapon capacity, longer range. It is perfect for maritin strike & patrolling the sea as it is equip with APG-79 version of AESA radar.  For dogfight, this fighter  is good for low speed & very maneuverable.... but when going against real enemy jet fighter or missile, it is not the jet you want to be in. That is why F-18 is design to kill its enemy at medium using AMRAAM. As solution for dogfight, this jet is using AIM -X version of missile to chase its high manouver enemy. Such version missile is only available for US or its allies. For Malaysia you can only buy it is limited quantity with limitation. F -18 also do not have IRST a passive optical heat tracking... so back to depend on AIM-x.

Typhoon one of current favorite Second  batch MRCA, got a lot of stock but in tranche 1 &2. Both versions have limited air to ground capability.  But future upgrade will see AESA & air bombing capability....

No wonder Singapore Air Force choosed F15SG over others 4th generation aircraft fighter... AESA is one of the main reason( at that time la).

F35 JSF

JSF 35 is a multirole fighter for the air-to-ground role with secondary air-to-air capability. It being designed to replace existing aircraft such ad F16,A10 and even F18. It main mission will include close air support, tactical bombing, and air defense missions


Basically there are 3 designs to fulfill 3 major services of US military; USAF, Navy and Marine Corps@ UK Royal & Air Force.

The designs are:

i)conventional take off and landing (CTOL) variant.
ii)F-35B, short-take off and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant.
iii)F-35C, carrier-based CATOBAR (CV) variant.

F35 is a fifth generation fitted the current edge of tech.




For STOVL capability, F35 used Rolls-Royce/Allison shaft-driven lift-fan, roll ducts and a three-bearing swivel main engine nozzle, which being powered by modified Pratt & Whitney F119 engine.

The range F35 STOVL is 1,670 km with its combat radius is 910km.

Its has 6 external hardpoints on its wings and 2 × internal bays with 2 pylons each.

Meanwhile the capabilities of the radar, AN/APG-81 has air-to-air modes with advanced air-to-ground modes(high resolution mapping, multiple ground moving target detection and track, combat identification, electronic warfare). The radar it-self is a successor radar to the F-22's AN/APG-77 now.

The Return of The Sky Kings

At last, Migs are back into service.

Migs played main role as Mach 2 interceptor, protecting strategic south zone from intruders.

Although only 10 jets or one squadron available but the Migs fire power and agility sure to give challenge to whoever dare to invade its sky.

With the current dull economy, puchasing new fighters will be not a option to replace the Migs.

Better have something than loss everthing....

It is Shock to hear that the mig going to retire. Maybe it is time to move on, the air force need more modern aircraft fighters such as…. Gripen?
